Repainting ‘Tich’

This nicely built model was constructed in the 1980’s by the current owners late father. He had been a prolific builder & this one was named for the current owner.

It had sat gathering dust since its last steaming many years ago and Simon felt that it was time to fettle the model up for proper display on his mantlepiece.

The model was a pleasure to work on. It was so well built that it only required the mechanical lubricator to be cleaned of old steam oil (which had set solid over the intervening years!) & it then turned over beatifully by hand. There was very little wear in any of the motion work or axle boxes. It came apart and went back together very easily.

Simon didn’t require the model to be restored to steaming condition as he had no intention of running it, although it would only take recertification to get it out on the track. Thus a straight forward strip down, clean & repaint was the order of the day.
